Fernando Castanera
Refractive surgery and Cataracts
- Dr. Fernando Castanera is the founder and medical director of Clínica Oftalmológica TACIR. Heir to a long tradition in medicine, started in 1714 by Dr. Francisco Cosme Castanera, he brings a unique blend of tradition and avant-garde with the same passion as the first day.
- Dr. Castanera introduced in 1988 the first Excimer Laser for the correction of myopia, being the precursor of today’s refractive lasers.
- In 1997 he was the first surgeon in Spain to implant an ICL type pericrystalline lens for the correction of refractive defects.
- He is a founding member of the group of surgeons specialised in presbyopia since 1997 (Prelex Group).
Introduces in Spain the current techniques for the treatment of glaucoma by means of micro-valves, being the instructor and trainer of this technique for the whole country. - He has introduced in Spain new techniques for the diagnosis of glaucoma HRT (optic nerve laser tomography) and has currently introduced the latest evolution in the control of glaucoma through the implantation of microchips for the daily control of ocular pressure.
- He has been repeatedly awarded for his video-conferences at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ASCRS), the European Society (ESCRS) and the Spanish Society (SEO).
- He has conducted 6 courses, inviting as speakers the most important international ophthalmologists of the moment. In them he introduced the first videoconferences with live surgery connecting America and Europe.
Diego Castanera

- Graduated in Medicine in 2013 from the Catholic University of Cordoba.
- Ophthalmology Resident at the Hospital Universitari Arnau de Vilanova (Lleida) from May 2015 to May 2019.
- He completed a Fellowship on Keratoconus at Centro de Ojos Quilmes with Roberto G. Albertazzi in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2018.
- He has worked as an attending ophthalmologist in the Cornea specialty at the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu in Manresa (Barcelona) in 2019.
- He did an Observership in Cornea at Keio University Hospital in Tokyo, Japan 2019.
- He was at Tokyo Dental College Ichikawa (Tokyo) in 2019 where he did DMEK and DSAEK wetlabs.
Sebastián Cerro
General Ophthalmology
- Graduated in medicine from the Catholic University of Cordoba in 2013.
- Resident in Ophthalmology at Clínica de Ojos Córdoba Privada SRL.
- Postgraduate in Ophthalmology from April 2015 to October 2018 at the Catholic University of Cordoba.
- Master in Applied Clinical Research in Health Sciences (studying from September 2019) at the UAB in Barcelona.
Hugo González Valdivia
Oculoplasty and Cosmetic Surgery
- Graduated in Medicine in 2008 at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Santiago de Chile.
- Obtained the title of Ophthalmologist in 2018 at the University Hospital of Alava, Vitoria Gasteiz, Spain.
Master in Clinical Ophthalmology (2018-2019) at CEU – Cardenal Herrera University, Valencia, Spain. - Master in Aesthetic Medicine (2019-2020) at the Catholic University of Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina. Double degree: CLEA University, Mexico.
- Works in the Ocular and Orbital Plastic Surgery team at Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, Barcelona from March 2018 to date.
- Working in the Ocular and Orbital Plastic Surgery team at HM Delfos Hospital, Barcelona from November 2018 to date.
