Ultrasonic Biomicroscopy (UBM)

In order to examine the structures of the anterior segment (cornea, iris, trabeculum, crystalline lens) in depth, we need to perform biomicroscopy using ultrasound. In this way we will obtain a clear image of these structures and we will be able to detect small iris cysts, make different measurements between these structures, etc.

To carry out the test, a small bathtub with water must be placed between the probe and the eye to transmit the ultrasound. Subsequently, we take different high-resolution images of the structures we are most interested in. From these images, different measurements can be taken, such as the one shown below.
