A problem in the tear ducts can produce either an obstruction that prevents the secretion of tears in a normal way or quite the opposite, an excess of secretion that causes continuous tearing of the eye.
If you notice any of these symptoms, we offer you our services to carry out an analysis of the quality of the tear as well as a probing of the lacrimal ducts to eliminate any possible obstruction that is preventing the normal functioning of the lacrimal ducts.
The tear in our eyes must have optimal properties for it to correctly perform its function, which is to lubricate the corneal surface to allow us to see correctly. It cannot be too liquid, since this would make it evaporate more easily causing dry eye problems, nor too thick, since it would cause blurred vision. Through an exhaustive analysis of the tear, we can determine its quality and give the patient the most appropriate treatment to improve it.
The probing of the tear ducts is a technique that basically consists of unclogging the tear duct through a mechanical action. The obstruction prevents the tear from exiting naturally into the eye. This can cause different problems, such as dry eye, or more serious ones such as internal infections. If the obstruction is mild, the procedure is performed in the same consultation, if it is more serious it will require entering the operating room, but always on an outpatient basis. The technique consists of inserting a metal probe into the tear ducts to remove the obstruction and allow the tear to drain again naturally. The procedure takes just a few minutes and the patient will notice instant improvement.
